Cristiano Ronaldo makes vow to Manchester United teammates as he returns to first-team training

Cristiano Ronaldo has made a promise to his Manchester United teammates after the striker rejoined the first-team squad for training after his temporary exclusion.

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that the 37-year-old is in contention for minutes against FC Sheriff Tiraspol in Thursday’s Europa League clash at Old Trafford. Ronaldo has started every European match so far and netted his first goal of the season against the Moldovans last month.

The superstar was spotted training with his Manchester United teammates again on Tuesday after being dropped for the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday due to his early exit against Tottenham, after which he trained alone.

Following Ten Hag ’s confirmation last week that Ronaldo would not travel to Stamford Bridge, the veteran forward took to Instagram to admit that “the heat of the moment” got to him, albeit stopped short of an apology.

“I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was,” he added.

Ronaldo seemed to be in a smiley mood on Tuesday upon his reintegration back into the set-up. And he took to social media again on Wednesday to pledge a vow to his first-team colleagues upon his return as he declared himself 'back on track'.

He also promised to show the 'same commitment and dedication as always' to his boss and teammates. “Back on track, with the same commitment and dedication as always!” he wrote.

Ronaldo could be in line for minutes against Sheriff with Anthony Martial still out injured.

It’s not known what reception he may receive but Ten Hag warned Ronaldo should brace for some potentially hostile reactions. “He has to be aware that you get judged by the moment and how you are acting today,” he said on Friday.

“Especially in top sport, it is about today - it is not about age or about reputation. When you do top sport, you get judged by the moment and you act.

“That is normal. We have to be aware of it. Everyone has to be aware of it and not just Cristiano.”
