Cristiano Ronaldo makes telling gesture to Bruno Fernandes after spurning Man Utd chance

Cristiano Ronaldo was a furious figure at Old Trafford as his compatriot Bruno Fernandes wasted a glorious chance himself despite there being an easy option to pass.

Manchester United endured a frustrating day at the office as they were held to a 0-0 draw by relegation threatened Watford, with former goalkeeper Ben Foster producing an excellent display between the posts.

United were wasteful in front of goal but they did have an easy chance to take the lead after just 12 minutes, as Fernandes had Ronaldo free to his right-hand side for an easy tap-in.

However, Fernandes decided to take the chance himself and Ronaldo's gesture was there for all to see.

Fernandes has been called out for 'looking to Ronaldo too often' since United re-signed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, but the Red Devils no.7 had an empty net to aim at if his compatriot had rolled the ball to him instead of missing the opportunity.

Ronaldo was understandably furious that Fernandes was selfish, and United ultimately paid the price as they failed to carve an opening, and had to settle for a point at home.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Will Manchester United make the top four this season? Comment below.

The 37-year-old threw his hands up into the air as Fernandes snubbed him, and there were some choice words shared between the pair as Ronaldo slammed him for his decision making.

It just wasn't Ronaldo's day as he struck the post early on, and even had a goal ruled out for offside as United's place within the top four now appears under serious threat.

They may hold onto fourth this weekend, but Arsenal are just two points behind them with three games in hand, and if Tottenham can also win the games they have over United then they too can move above them.

Old Trafford has been anything but a fortress for United this season, and they have already been knocked out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup at home during the current campaign.

In fact, it's the seventh time this season that they've failed to win at home in the Premier League alone, and they've been thumped by Liverpool and Manchester City in front of their own fans.

Ronaldo will need to be the hero for United in the Champions League as they welcome Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their knockout tie, but they had Anthony Elanga to thank in the first leg as he snatched a 1-1 draw.

Inconsistencies at United remain, and it'e been far from the fairy-tale return that Ronaldo would've been hoping for, although he does have 15 goals in 29 appearances this season.

But he is struggling in the Premier League, with just one goal in 2022 so far, although it should have been two if Fernandes was unselfish.
