Manchester United are reportedly aiming to repeat their success of bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford as they attempt to sign Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish striker looks highly likely to leave Bayern Munich this summer despite still having one year left to run on his contract at the Allianz Arena.
He has expressed his desire for a fresh challenge following eight years in Bavaria, with Catalan giants Barcelona having emerged as prime candidates for his services should he leave.
The two clubs are yet to agree terms on a switch to the Camp Nou and in the meantime, Man United have entered the race for Lewandowski - the Red Devils hoping that they can swoop for the striker should an agreement not be found in the foreseeable future.
They already have a plan in place to attempt to tempt him to Old Trafford. According to The Sun, the Red Devils would have no problem in paying the £400,000 per week wages that Lewandowski would demand.
In the meantime, it is suggested that the club could take inspiration from their successful attempt to bring Ronaldo back to the club last summer. The Portuguese icon made an emotional return to Manchester 12 months ago having previously been linked with a switch to Manchester City.
The Red Devils managed to tie him down to a two-year deal though, with the 37-year-old going on to score 24 goals in all competitions despite a hugely disappointing season for the side. United are aiming to add more firepower to the side this summer to supplement the former Real Madrid man’s contributions - Lewandowski representing an excellent option.

The Polish forward remained in top form last term having found the net on an eye-watering 50 occasions. Of course, it remains to be seen whether United have a realistic chance of signing him considering that the 33-year-old has appealed to current employers Bayern to let him go to Barcelona.
Speaking to Polish outlet Sport ONET, he said: “I just want to leave Bayern. Loyalty and respect are more important than the work. The best thing to do is find a solution together.
“They didn’t want to listen to me until the end. Something died inside me and it’s impossible to get over that. Even if you want to be professional, you can’t make up for it. No other offers were even considered by me other than that of Barcelona. I want to leave Bayern, that’s clear.”
Whilst United are interested in Lewandowski, they remain focused on adding further midfield options to Erik ten Hag’s squad ahead of next season. Barcelona have rejected the Red Devils’ first bid for Frenkie de Jong, although United are expected to return with a renewed offer in the near future.
Wolves ' Ruben Neves and Leicester star Youri Tielemans also remain as potential options should they fail to sign the Dutchman this summer.
