Cristiano Ronaldo hits out at transfer ‘lies’ as Manchester United star ‘works on Sporting Lisbon return’

Cristiano Ronaldo has hit out at "lies" about his future as he continues to push for a Manchester United exit.

Speculation over the Portuguese star's future continued to heighten this week as he returned to United's training ground for showdown talks with the club, who reportedly enlisted the help of Ronaldo’s ‘father figure’ Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo is understood to have reiterated his desire to leave the club this summer and his agent, Jorge Mendes, is reportedly working on a transfer back to boyhood club Sporting Lisbon.

Responding to a fan account post regarding the talks and Ferguson “intervening", Ronaldo posted: "Impossible not to talk about me one day. Otherwise the press makes no money. You know that if you don’t lie you can’t get people’s attention. Keep going that one day you get some news right."

According to The Athletic, Ronaldo wants to play in the Champions League next season. His desperation to be the competition's top scorer - which he currently is with 140 goals - and to beat Lionel Messi's group-stage tally, which he trails by three goals, is a key factor behind the exit demand.
