Cristiano Ronaldo Hints At Continuing To Play For Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that he will continue playing for Portugal despite the team's recent exit from Euro 2024. The star forward started in all five of Portugal's matches during the tournament, averaging 97 minutes per game. However, he failed to score in open play at a major international tournament for the first time in his career.

Following Portugal's quarterfinal defeat to France on penalties, Ronaldo took to social media to express his disappointment, stating, 'We wanted more. We deserved more. For us. For each one of you. For Portugal.' Despite the setback, he expressed gratitude for the support and achievements both on and off the field, hinting at a continued legacy for the national team.

Portugal's coach, Roberto Martínez, mentioned that it was premature to speculate on Ronaldo's future with the team. The prolific forward has scored 130 goals in 212 appearances for Portugal since his debut in 2003 and was instrumental in their Euro 2016 triumph. Ronaldo had previously suggested that Euro 2024 would be his final European Championship.

As the football world awaits his decision, there is uncertainty about whether the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will extend his international career to compete in the 2026 World Cup at the age of 41. Portugal's next match is scheduled for September 5 against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League, where fans will be eager to see if Ronaldo continues to lead his country on the field.
