Cristiano Ronaldo disciplined for Cho Gue Sung clash as Celtic target backed by Portugal boss over incident

Portugal boss Fernando Santos says he's dealt with Cristiano Ronaldo after the striker's furious reaction towards South Korea's Cho Gue-sung.

The former Manchester United striker was left livid by Gue-sung, who is reportedly a transfer target for Celtic next month. Ronaldo claims he was told to hurry up and leave the pitch as the sides were drawing 1-1 as the South Koreans chased a winner - which they eventually found and set up a knockout tie with Brazil.

Ronaldo was visibly raging at the striker who he felt disrespected him and boss Santos wasn't happy with what he saw from his captain. But he says the matter has been "dealt with" internally and expects Ronaldo to start against Switzerland on Tuesday. He said: “If I see the images – I didn’t like it, not at all. I really did not like it. But from that moment onwards, everything is finished – full stop regarding that issue. Now, we have to think about tomorrow’s match, and everyone is focused on tomorrow’s match.”

When asked if Ronaldo will captain the side he said: “I only decide who’s going to be the captain when I’ve reached the stadium, so I don’t know. I don’t know what the line-up will be.

“That’s what I’ve always done and that’s what I’m always going to do. But the other topic is solved. We fixed it in-house and that’s it.”
