Cris Cyborg is dabbling in the world of boxing, but also has her eyes on potential opponents for her return to the MMA cage.
The Bellator women’s featherweight champion is stepping into the boxing ring for the second time this year to face Gabrielle Holloway in the co-main event of Crawford vs. Avanesyan on Dec. 10.
While holding the Bellator title, Cyborg has the freedom to compete in other sports like boxing and have conversations with other promotions. However, at this time, she doesn’t anticipate a major move to another MMA banner.
“I’m free to talk to another organization, but you know, I’m a Bellator champion,” Cyborg told MMA Junkie Radio. “I believe I’m going to sign with them, and I’ll be looking for a fight this summer. MMA summer with Cat Zingano.”
A bout against Zingano has been rumored since April, when Cyborg defeated Arlene Blencowe for the second time at Bellator 279. Zingano defeated Pam Sorenson a couple of months later, and without many options available for either fighter, the matchup makes sense.
There is another option for Cyborg, although it would take some work between Bellator and PFL, two organizations that have shown cross-promotional interest in the past.
After winning the 2022 PFL women’s lightweight championship by pulling off a major upset over Kayla Harrison, fellow UFC veteran Larissa Pacheco expressed her frustration with not being included in Cyborg’s fantasy matchmaking.
When asked if she has any interest in fighting the new PFL champ, Cyborg said would be up for facing the fellow Brazilian.
“For sure,” Cyborg said. “I always have to be ready for challenges. I’m focused on Cat Zingano next, but let’s see what there’s gonna be next. If Bellator and others work together, let’s see. Let’s see what’s gonna happen. For sure, Pacheco’s (last fight) was a win and a great victory.”
