Crimson Desert has seen quite a successful launch, with an initially "Mixed" rating on Steam that quickly rose to "Very Positive," with over four million copies sold in just two weeks – a number that has now shot up by a good million, in fact.
Developer Pearl Abyss reveals as much in a new online post, excitedly announcing now that "Crimson Desert has sold through over 5 million copies worldwide!" That's no small number by any means.
"Thank you to every Greymane who has joined us on this journey, experienced the world of Pywel, and supported the game," the studio continues. "Reaching this milestone would not have been possible without your support, and we are truly grateful."

Folks seem quite pleased with the new sales milestone, too, with one fan writing, "Well done, everyone, you created an all-time classic game. On behalf of all Greymanes, thank you!" Another player simply says, "Five million. And the game just came out. Not surprised at all."
It's a testament to just how much the community appears to be enjoying the open-world sandbox-esque experience. Heck, somebody's reply even says it "raises the bar" for games.
That's quite a claim, but it's not all that surprising to see the game's success, if you ask me. It scratches the medieval (well, sort of), open-world itch that Skyrim has us all yearning for in The Elder Scrolls 6, while also maintaining the high-impact action of titles like The Witcher 3 and even Red Dead Redemption 2.
As it stands now, there are nearly 50,000 reviews on Steam alone, with many players praising Crimson Desert as an "amazing game." And judging by its active users – over 100,000 a day or so, as per SteamDB, with a 24-hour peak of 127,915 – I doubt things will take a turn for the worse any time soon.
Pearl Abyss isn't done with its work on what might just be one of the best new games to come out of 2026, either – a new Crimson Desert patch just dropped a few days ago, and there are still plenty of tweaks underway to look forward to.
