Creature Commandos season 2 is on the way, though we don't know when the new episodes will hit our screens just yet. We do know, however, that the absolutely terrifying Clayface we saw in Creature Commandos season 1 is the same one we're going to see in the upcoming live-action Clayface movie... which is terribly exciting.
The R-rated animated show, which kicked off DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, was well-received by critics and fans alike, leading to a pretty swift season 2 renewal. The first season saw Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) tasked with managing the unexpectedly lovable team and sending them on a dangerous black ops mission, but the extremely sad ending saw the group enter its second iteration... with a new leader at the helm.
Below, we've gathered everything we know about Creature Commandos season 2 release date, plot, cast, and more. Scroll on down for more information!
Creature Commandos season 2 release date speculation

Creature Commandos episode 1 hit Max on December 4 after being announced some 11 months prior in January 2023. Season 2 was announced on December 23, 2024. Given how long it takes to develop an animated series (we're looking at you, Invincible), we might be looking at a two or three-year gap with season 2.
The writing team started early on the show and in February 2025, writer Dean Lorey said DC has fast-tracked them. "It's still early days, but we are actively working on breaking the season and starting to figure that out. So it's definitely moving forward," he told The Direct. "They put it on a fast track, and they seem to mean it. So, yeah, we're in it."
Looking at the list of announced projects for the first phase of Gunn and Safran's DCU, which is aptly titled DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, we can confirm that Supergirl and the Lanterns TV series are slated for a 2026 release. That means we could be looking at 2027 for Creature Commandos season 2.
On January 12, 2026, James Gunn said on Threads after being asked when we will get to see the new episodes: "When we're done animating the new season which is in production now."
Creature Commandos season 2 plot speculation

The first season ends with the Bride being put in charge of a new team of monsters, one being King Shark (who you might remember from The Suicide Squad). The rest of the team includes Doctor Phosphorous, Weasel, and two new monsters. It's likely that the team will be tasked with a new mission, this time with the Bride in charge instead of Rick Flag Sr. Rick is set to appear in both Superman and Peacemaker season 2, and has not yet found out that Amanda Waller is the one who order Peacemaker to kill Rick Flag Jr. It's possible that this will carry over into Creature Commandos season 2, but only time will tell.
When asked what he'd like to see in season 2, star Frank Grillo told GamesRadar+ that he'd "love to see how it evolves". He continued: "I'd like to see how they develop as a team because it takes the whole season for them to be a symbiotic kinda group and just see where it goes. Because it starts with me meeting them and kind of going like, what am I doing? What are these things? And then we become a family."
After making the jump to live action with the same character in Superman, Grillo was also included in Peacemaker season 2. In an interview in October 2025, James Gunn left the door open to the possibility of seeing other Creature Commandos in live-action projects.
"The answer to that question, which, this is going to be all anybody talks about from this interview, is yes, but not necessarily when you think you're going to see him. So not necessarily in Peacemaker season 2," he told EW.
As of May 2026, we know that the first episode is titled 'Starry Night,' and was written by none other than showrunner Dean Lorey. "I promised a 'starry little surprise' so here you go, the title page of the first script,” Lorey wrote in his post, which you can check out below. "Creature Commandos season 2 is becoming something really special with the work of hugely talented creative folks who I’ll spotlight over the next few weeks!"
Creature Commandos season 2 cast speculation

There were quite a few deaths in Creature Commandos season 1, though the final moments of the show give us a pretty good idea of which characters will be returning. Two deaths are up in the air: Clayface, who is famously hard to kill, and Eric Frankenstein, who is sort of already dead. We also see a new, built-up version of GI Robot in the finale, despite his death earlier on in the season. And so, we've compiled who will likely return for season 2 below.
- Indira Varma as the Bride
- Sean Gunn as GI Robot and Weasel
- Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus
- Viola Davis as Amanda Waller
- Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
- Anya Chalotra as Circe
- Steve Agee as John Economos
- Linda Cardellini as Elizabeth Bates, Weasel's lawyer
