Craigslist founder Craig Newmark has pledged to give away most of his estimated $1.3 billion fortune, drawing on lessons about generosity he learnt in Sunday school. Newmark, who launched the online classifieds platform in 1995, signed the Giving Pledge in 2025, committing to donate the majority of his wealth to charitable causes. He credits his childhood teachers, Mr and Mrs Levin, with teaching him when enough is enough and the importance of treating others fairly. His philanthropic priorities include supporting military families and veterans, tackling cybersecurity threats and scams, and funding pigeon rescue initiatives.
