Craig Gordon suffers serious injury as Hearts skip stretchered off vs Dundee Utd

Craig Gordon has sustained a serious leg injury following today's game against Dundee United.

The Hearts captain went up for a 50-50 challenge with United's Steven Fletcher as the game headed towards the final stages at Tannadice.

The Scotland No1. and the striker had to be treated immediately, as their teammates flagged down the medical teams.

Gordon was stretchered off, with his leg in a brace and an oxygen mask on.

Fletcher also had to be substituted, as he was replaced by Tony Watt.

The extent of Gordon's injury is unclear at the time, however, early reports seem to suggest a leg break.

After the collision between the ex-Scotland teammates, referee Colin Stephen had actually awarded a penalty to Dundee United despite Gordon reaching the ball before the striker. However, VAR advised the on-field official changed his mind.

Speaking to BBC Scotland after the match, Robbie Neilson admits the prognosis isn't looking good for Gordon. But he's backed the keeper to come back from it.

He said: "He's gone to hospital and it's not looking great. I'm devastated for him. But he'll get through it. The big man's a warrior.

"We'll just help him through and see where we are in the next couple of days."

Neilson also saw Craig Halkett and Stephen Kingsley come off injured in the match, as his lengthy list of players on the treatment table grows bigger.

The game finished 2-2, with Lawrence Shankland sealing a point for the Jambos in added time.

Fletcher had the hosts in front on 20-minutes. Michael Smith cancelled out this lead before half-time though.

Amid several VAR interventions, after the break, United re-took the lead through Dylan Levitt.

However, on-form Shankland stepped up from the spot just moments from the end of the game to ensure a share of the spoils.
