Craig Gordon's message to Hearts teammates immediately after horror injury revealed as Josh Ginnelly hails 'legend'

Josh Ginnelly has revealed Craig Gordon's first words to his Hearts teammates after his sickening collision with Steven Fletcher.

The Jambos skipper looked to have suffered a horror leg break after he rushed out to a bouncing ball to divert it away from danger before his former Scotland teammate Fletcher couldn't help but run into him. Pictures of the clash made for grim viewing, and Gordon was stretchered from the Tannadice pitch receiving gas and air, seemingly in some amount of distress as his teammates watched on ashen faced.

It looks almost certain that the veteran keeper's season is over. He was taken to hospital but boss Robbie Neilson backed the "warrior" to make a comeback. But the extent of the damage won't be known until Gordon can be properly assessed. Understudy Zander Clark replaced Gordon for his Hearts debut and will likely be a fixture between the sticks for the remainder of the campaign.

But Ginnelly has revealed that Gordon's first thoughts as he was being treated and taking off were only of all three points for his boyhood team. They trailed United 2-1 at the time of the incident that saw him hurt.

Fletcher's opener had been cancelled out by Michael Smith before the break. But Dylan Levitt restored United's lead shortly after the interval.

In a social media post, Ginnelly sent his best wishes to his captain, before sharing Gordon's request that his teammates "go and win this f****g game" as he was being carried off.

He tweeted: "Merry Christmas to you all. Thoughts are with you skip what a man. First thing he says after that is “Go and win this f****** game” legend."

Hearts didn't quite manage that. But they did rescue a late point thanks to Lawrence Shankland's penalty to move level on points with Aberdeen in third.
