Cradock Four: Why apartheid victims are suing South Africa’s government

Families of South Africans murdered by apartheid police – including a group of anti-apartheid activists killed in one of the most gruesome cases of the time in 1985 – are suing the government for damages worth $9m.

According to a case filed at the High Court in Pretoria on Monday, 25 survivors and victims’ families are suing President Cyril Ramaphosa and his government for what they call a failure to properly investigate apartheid-era offences and deliver justice.
