CPD officer dies by apparent suicide — the 5th this year: officials

A Chicago police officer who died Thursday is believed to have taken his own life, according to officials.

Department sources described the officer as a 51-year-old man who worked in the Austin District. He would be the fifth officer to die by suicide this year.
