Cowboys fans will surely read into this one. While talking to reporters Monday, Jerry Jones decided to add some color to one of his remarks when it came to how his franchise fares in the NFL draft. While doing so, he took a fun shot at his fourth-year coach.
“Drafting is not out problem, coaching is,” Jones said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Clarence Hill Jr.
He said the cheeky comment right next to coach Mike McCarthy, but as Hill pointed out, the comment was made in jest. Yet some fans may be inclined to read a bit into it since McCarthy’s job security has been a recurring subject when Dallas has lost in the postseason for the last two years.

But Jones is right that the Cowboys haven’t had an issue in the draft in recent years. Dallas always seems to have representation in the Pro Bowl and it’s almost always a player it selected in the draft.
Last season, the Cowboys got a starting offensive tackle in the first round in Tyler Smith. From the last several drafts, Dallas draftees Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs, Tyler Biadasz and Tony Pollard have all made Pro Bowl appearances, and numerous other players selected on draft night have become starters for the team.
Jones will look to continue his team’s success in the draft on Thursday when the first round starts at 8 p.m. ET. After the latest postseason flameout, the Cowboys’ first pick is at No. 26.
