Cowboys’ Dak Prescott won’t play vs. Giants in Week 3

The Dallas Cowboys are favored by many experts to win the NFC East this season. Those predictions may be being revisited this morning after quarterback Dak Prescott fractured his right thumb in the Cowboys’ 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night.

Prescott will have surgery on Monday and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, meaning he will miss the Week 3 matchup versus the New York Giants on September 26 at MetLife Stadium.

Prescott should be back for the second meeting with the Giants in Week 12, at AT&T on Thanksgiving Day.

Prescott has played 11 games against the Giants in his career and has a 9-2 record against Big Blue. He has averaged 262.4 yards passing per contest and has tossed 21 touchdowns versus the Giants — the most against any opponent.

Former Giant backup Cooper Rush will assume the starting role for the Cowboys with Will Grier stepping in as the primary backup.
