Cowboys Admit Patriots’ New Backup QB Poses a Unique Problem This Week

Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer admitted Tuesday that Patriots quarterback Will Grier poses a problem for their team. They’re not scared of what the backup signal-caller can do on the field necessarily, but it’s what he knows.

Grier spent significant time in the Dallas organization as a backup before he was waived by the team in August and Schottenheimer said the offense is going to have to change some things up because of what Grier knows. He also noted the fact that former Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliott is also playing for New England now and could pose a problem.

“We know Will knows where a lot of the bones are buried,” Schottenheimer said Monday, per ESPN’s Todd Archer. “We know Zeke does as well . . . I’m sure [Grier] is definitely being interrogated.”

Dallas will have to change their hand signals among other things—assuming Grier and Elliot told the Patriots defense everything they know about their former team. The Cowboys are coming off a disappointing 28–16 loss to the Cardinals and will look to get back on track in Week 4.

Kick off on Sunday is set for 4:25 p.m. ET on Fox.
