Though some areas of the North East have little more than a handful of Covid-19 cases and in general case rates are falling, places ranging from Wallsend to Amble have seen spikes in cases in recent days and some the rapid fall in cases seen across the region seems to have slowed..
Over the seven days to April 21, the rate of cases rocketed in the Sunderland areas of Herrington and Doxford for example - with the number of cases more than doubling and the rate now above 500 cases per 100,000 people once again. There were 40 areas of our region which saw cases rise over that week.
The steady fall in Covid-19 cases around the country broadly continues - but the signs are that cases are beginning to stabilise and many areas are seeing jumps again for the first this month.
