Covid hospitalisations continue to fall across Greater Manchester as infection rates plummet

The hospitalisation of patients with coronavirus is continuing to fall across the region as the infection rates also see a decline.

Coronavirus infection rates have fallen in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester and remain below the national average, figures have revealed.

Stockport continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with 407.6 cases per 100,000 people as of the week ending February 12.

The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 270.2 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 343.2 cases per 100,000 population.

The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 569.1 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 9,732 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on February 12.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 5511 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 36 per cent in the last week..

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on February 06, a total of 538 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 57 fewer than the week before, a fall of 12 per cent.

On Tuesday February 08, there were 25 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is five fewer than a week earlier.

This is the most recent available data for hospital admissions, the figures for NHS trusts are not updated daily.

Deaths

In the week ending February 12, a total of 42 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 46 fewer than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 888,932 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,697 deaths.

Rochdale

Rochdale is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 300.9 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 673 cases recorded in Rochdale, which is 382 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 36 per cent.

Tameside

The trend is down in Tameside, where there were 762 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending February 12, which is 572 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 43 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Tameside is 335.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Salford

In Salford, the latest infection rate is 353.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 35 per cent.

A total of 928 people tested positive for Covid in Salford over the seven days ending on February 12, which is 499 fewer than the week before.

Trafford

There were 967 positive tests over the last week in Trafford, which is 378 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Trafford is down by 28 per cent and the latest infection rate is 407.0 cases per 100,000 people.

Wigan

Wigan saw a total of 1106 cases in the week ending February 12, which is 639 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 37 per cent.

In Wigan, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 334.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Bury

In Bury, the number of cases is down by 39 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 316.2 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 603 positive Covid-19 tests in Bury in the week ending February 12, which was 393 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Stockport

In Stockport, there were 1199 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending February 12, which is 733 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Stockport has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Stockport is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 38 per cent.

Bolton

There was a fall of 41 per cent in cases in Bolton over the week ending February 12, and the infection rate is now 322.3 cases per 100,000 population.

Bolton recorded 929 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 644 fewer than the previous week.

Manchester

Manchester recorded 1923 coronavirus cases, which is 846 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Manchester is 346.0 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 31 per cent week-on-week.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 642 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending February 12, which is 425 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 270.2 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 40 per cent week-on-week.
