NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: An urgent meeting of officials was called to assess the situation after the province logged 743 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday.

The number of new cases saw a sharp increase, up from 434 on Monday and 429 on Tuesday.

Provincial  governor Kraisorn Wisitwong  called and urgent meeting  with all four deputy governors, the provincial public health chief, the police chief, the education office chief and the mayor of Nakhon Si Thammarat Municipality.

Mr Kraisorn said after the meeting that 80% of the new infections were caught from other family members or at rubberwood factories. He had instructed that measures to contain the pandemic were strictly observed.

Education officials would focus their attention on about 400 schools in the province, about one-quarter, which had resumed on-site learning. Disease control committees of all education levels must closely monitor the situation at schools, particularly those in high-risk areas.

The governor said he also ordered strict enforcement of Covid restrictions on the movements  of migrant workers at campsites and in the agriculture and service sectors.
