Covid-19 Ireland: One shop where you still must wear your face mask

After nearly two years, rules have finally relaxed on the wearing of face masks.

On February 28, the mandatory requirement to wear masks on public transport, in retail settings, churches, cinemas and other public spaces was lifted.

The only exception is healthcare settings where patients, visitors and staff will still be required to wear masks.

And as part of this rule, there is one shop where masks are still required.

Pharmacies are categorised as healthcare settings and therefore masks must still be worn by customers.

The Irish Pharmacy Union said on Monday: "Today, the mandatory requirement to wear masks in retail settings has been removed. As pharmacies are considered healthcare settings, the current public health advice is that masks should continue to be worn there."

While it is no longer a legal requirement to wear a face mask in most public settings, it is still recommended that face coverings be worn on public transport.

Masks must also still be worn for international travel and the requirement for the EU Digital Covid Cert remains in place.

If you have Covid-19, you must continue to isolate for 7 days. If you are 13 years and older you should wear a Medical grade or FFP2 for 10 days. If you are under 12 years you should wear a well-fitted mask for 10 days.
