Covid-19: India reports 3,688 new cases, 50 deaths in 24 hours; active cases cross 18k mark

NEW DELHI: With 3,688 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India's total tally of Covid-19 cases rose to 4,30,75,864 while the active cases increased to 18,684, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Saturday.

According to the Union health ministry data updated at 9 am, the death toll rose to 5,23,803 with 50 more fatalities.

The active cases constituted 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national recovery rate was recorded at 98.74 per cent, the health ministry said.

An increase of 883 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of last 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.74 per cent and weekly positivity rate at 0.66 per cent, the data said.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease has increased to 4,25,33,377, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.22 per cent.

The last 24 hours saw a total of 4,96,640 Covid-19 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 83.74 crore (83,74,42,023) cumulative tests.

Meanwhile, more than 193.28 crore (1,93,28,90,965) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt. of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category and more than 19.43 crore(19,43,60,715) balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.

India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 188.89 crore (1,88,89,90,935) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 2,32,98,421 sessions. Vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 2.86 crore (2,86,98,710) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine. Similarly, the Covid-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.
