COVID-19 case numbers from around the states and territories

Here's a quick wrap of each Australian jurisdiction's latest COVID-19 statistics today — Tuesday, April 26.

Victoria

There have been another fifteen COVID-19 deaths in Victoria.

There are 455 cases in hospital, with 33 of those in intensive care and nine requiring ventilation.

There were 9,265 new cases reported by health authorities today. 

NSW

New South Wales has recorded 18 more COVID-19 deaths. 

There are 1,695 cases in hospital, with 67 of those in intensive care. 

There were 9,849 new cases announced today.

Queensland

The state has recorded one more COVID death and 5,142 new cases.

There are 484 people in hospital, 13 of those are in ICU. 

There are 44,564 active cases in the state.

ACT

The ACT recorded 831 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday.

There are 69 people in hospital with the virus in Canberra, including five patients in intensive care but none requiring ventilation.

Of Canberra's children aged five to 11, 80 per cent have received a vaccine dose and about three-quarters of Canberrans aged 16 and older have received their booster.

Tasmania

A woman aged in her 70s has become the latest COVID-related death in Tasmania.

The woman died at Launceston General Hospital but is not related to the ongoing outbreak inside the hospital, the government said.

Her death brings the state's toll from the pandemic to 48.

Tasmania has recorded 958 new COVID-19 cases, with active cases dropping to 6,930.

There are 38 people with the virus in hospital, with 11 patients being treated specifically for COVID-19. One person is in ICU.

South Australia

SA has recorded 3,463 new COVID cases and seven more deaths linked to the virus.

There are currently 26,944 known active cases in South Australia.

Students will have to wear face masks for another month after school resumes next week, the state's Emergency Management Committee ruled this morning.

Western Australia

WA has reported 6,711 new COVID-19 infections today.

There are currently 249 people in hospital, with 11 people in intensive care.

Eight deaths have also been recorded — a man in his 80s died on Monday and seven historical deaths dating back to March 27 were also confirmed.

Northern Territory

The NT has recorded 362 new COVID cases.

There are 46 people in hospital with the virus, one of whom is in intensive care.

There are 3,165 known active cases across the territory.

Close contact rules will change from midnight, meaning anyone who is symptom-free and triple-vaccinated will not need to isolate if they're deemed a close contact starting from midnight tonight.
