Calum Gallagher says Airdrie can't focus on Cove Rangers, and must take care of their own business.
The 27-year-old former Rangers and St Mirren striker took his tally to nine for the season as Airdrie thumped third-placed Montrose 4-1 at New Broomfield on Saturday, cutting the deficit at the top of League One to five points, after Cove drew 0-0 with 10-man Queen's Park.
Gallagher says while that is important, Airdrie have to just keep performing as they are, and the wins will come.
And he's determined to fire his way up the scoring charts following his glory double.
Gallagher scored twice in 90 seconds in the first half, before Craig Watson and Adam Frizzell helped themselves to goals in the second half, meaning Graham Webster's penalty strike just before the interval turned out to be consolation for Montrose.
He said: "The win was really important.
"It's tough not to focus on Cove and chase, but at the same time we're very internal, very introspective in how we approach our training and our mentality. Everything is very much on our own performance as a team.
"We try not to look too 'big picture' at the league, because if we keep performing in the right way, regardless of results, they'll come anyway. We will climb and catch.
"It's 4-1 against Montrose, there won't be many teams this season [who do that] if any.
"They're a really well-drilled, organised team, and I expect them to finish right up there, so it's credit to the guys in the dressing room, who have been immense.
"As a team and personally I'm hoping I can carry that form on, and the team continue that.
"We'll have one eye on the other results, but it's all about what we do from here on out."
As a striker, Gallagher was delighted with his double, firing a curling effort into the top right corner in 34 minutes, and back-heel flicking Dylan Easton's cross in via the crossbar on 36, but says he must be more clinical.
He said: "It's something that I've been trying to improve on, being a bit more clinical when the chances come, and trying to get my numbers up, so I need to push on.
"That's me on nine now, so I need to push on to double figures and get into the teens as quickly as possible and really help drive the team.
"At the first goal... not to be self-defamatory, but it's not very like me to be so calm, it just sat really nice.
"I had taken the touch to set, and at that point I hadn't decided what I was doing, but none of the backline from Montrose had stepped to press, I had a wee alley just to guide it, and I thought 'why not'.
"It's a great one for me. I don't score good ones very often, it's mostly tap-ins off my backside!
"So it's a really good one for me, and I hope I can continue that."
Gallagher added: "At the second, it's one of those where in a way it's better than the first one for me as a striker.
"It's all about the run, gambling and it coming off - you make 15-20 of them in a game and people might not see it, but you just need to be there, make sure the one time that it does come that you're there to put something on it.
"It's off the bar and in, which makes it look nice, but it could have gone in anywhere and I'm really pleased that it's another goal."
