Another 4000 jobs could be lost in the Upper Hunter if MACH Energy's Mount Pleasant optimisation project does not proceed, Muswellbrook mayor Jeff Drayton has warned.

An estimated 12,000 direct and indirect jobs are already expected to be lost from the Muswellbrook shire by 2030 because of coal mining closures in coming years.
