NARATHIWAT: A man was arrested with about 200,000 methamphetamine pills in his possession in Bacho district of this southern border province, provincial police chief Pol Maj Gen Waesamae Salae said on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off that a large amount of meth pills would be delivered along Highway 42, an interception checkpoint was set up near Paluka Samo police station in Bacho district. About 10pm on Oct 13, a black Isuzu pickup with Chai Nat licence plate was stopped for a search.
Police found hidden under the floor behind the driver's seat two large bags containing 199,888 meth pills in small packages.
The driver, Sakda Wante, 41, from Songkhla's Chana district, said he was being paid 20,000 baht to deliver the drugs from Phatthalung to clients in Narathiwat. He allegedly admitted to having done this many times previously.
He was charged with having illicit drugs in possession with intent to sell. The pickup and Mr Somsak's two mobile phones were impounded for examination.
Pol Maj Gen Waesamae told reporters the drugs were believed destined for a neighbouring country.
