A special day that could definitely be described as a ‘fairytale wedding’ occurred in Comrie at the weekend.
For, as teenagers in the local panto 18 years ago, the bride played Cinderella and the groom was Buttons.
Lewis Clark and Emma Bloomer, both 34, returned to the village on Saturday to be married in Comrie Parish Church.
The reception took place in the White Church, where their love story began in 2004 – although they didn’t know it at the time.
The pair, who now live in Glasgow, played opposite each other in the pantomime Cinderella – Lewis as Buttons and Emma as Cinders. Oh yes they did!
Emma, originally from Comrie, and Lewis, from Muthill – who both attended Crieff High School – went out together for a short time in 2004 but then went their separate ways, with Emma pursuing acting in London, and Lewis teaching English in Taiwan.
But, in true fairytale style, as Lewis’s dad Steve said: “They met up again three years ago and have found their one true love … each other!”
And the best man and bridesmaid were also taking a trip down memory lane in this happy ending while they helped the bride and groom decorate the White Church ahead of the celebrations.
Jack Williamson had played Dandini and Roseanna Macdonald was Prince Charming all those years ago in the same panto.
The newlyweds are off to Thailand this week on honeymoon.
Before leaving, Lewis told the Herald: “It was an absolutely magical day. The White Church means so much to us both.
“We are absolutely delighted and over the moon.
“We danced the night away to music provided by the Blackford Fiddle Group, and stayed at the Royal across the road.
“Emma’s dad’s speech was gorgeous and heartfelt and had many a panto reference.”
