An elderly couple in a relationship for 42 years have married in a care home - decades after she first popped the question. Jim Hawkins, 81, finally said 'I do' to his partner Lynne, 64.
The pair had lived on the same road in their hometown of Bourton-on-the Water, Glos, where they had their first date in 1980. Now in a care home due to his battles with dementia, Jim finally agreed to tie the knot - saying “I’m ready, and I’m getting on a bit!”.
He had previously rejected a proposal by Lynne early on in their relationship and the pair never married. However they raised their son James together in Fairview, Cheltenham.
