Couple 'left baby at airport check-in instead of paying for extra ticket'

A couple reportedly left their baby at an airport check-in desk rather than buying a separate ticket for them. According to The Independent, the incident happened at Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion Airport in Israel.

It reportedly happened at the Ryanair desk. The Independent said that KAN, a local news outlet in Israel, had reported that the couple were travelling to Brussels on Belgian passports.

When they arrived at the check-in desk, they were told that they would have to pay for a seat for their baby. Ryanair was quoted as saying that the couple had not paid for a ticket for the child ahead of arriving at the airport.

Then, airport staff told the local media, to the amazement of onlookers, they left their child in its baby stroller and walked on through to passport control.

Local news outlet K12 quoted one employee as saying: “We’ve never seen anything like this. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing.”

The Israel Airports Authority was reported as confirming that the couple had arrived late for their flight. A spokesperson said that they seemed "anxious" to get through airport security, with or without their baby.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “These passengers travelling from Tel Aviv to Brussels (January 31) presented at check-in without a booking for their infant. They then proceeded to security, leaving the infant behind at check-in. The check-in agent at Ben Gurion Airport contacted Airport Security, who retrieved these passengers, and this is now a matter for local police.”
