Nothing says hitting an intimate family milestone quite like outsourcing your baby’s gender reveal to a Texas Roadhouse server mid-shift. One couple decided steaks and sweet tea were the perfect backdrop for their big moment. The result? The underwhelming reveal, a couple reacting as they’d just been told their table was ready, and a waitress trying to lift the vibe.
Viewers are baffled by both the gender reveal planning and the reaction, with many asking, “Why did you make her do this?”
A Texas Roadhouse Special
Is this the new Gen Z type of planning, or are we simply running out of ideas? As gender reveals keep aspiring to be more unique, Brittany’s (@britt.keene) clip is definitely the first of its kind. Not in the way that it hasn’t been done before, but having a particular flavor of bewilderment that has confused its audience, which is over 16.2 million.
Brittany and her partner are self-proclaimed Texas Roadhouse fans and therefore handed the suspense over to their waitress, who was tasked with pouring mystery syrup into a water glass while the internet watched. The reveal itself takes only 10 seconds.
The server comes up to the table and asks, “Ready to find out what y’all are having?” Brittany’s face is obscured, but her husband can be seen smiling on the right side of the video. Brittany gives the affirmative, and the server does only a second of hesitation before she pours the pink syrup and announces it’s a girl.
Brittany says, “Oh my God, really?” and can briefly be seen smiling. The husband also smiles and presumably tells their first child that they’re going to have a little sister. As the clip comes to an end, the server is still standing there and says “yay” while clapping her hands.
Gender Reveals Done by Employees
Brittany is getting a lot of flak for it, but the gender reveal at Texas Roadhouse is not the first time someone has tried to enlist help for the grand reveal. The Mary Sue covered a story where one couple tried to ask Mickey Mouse at Disneyland to read the letter and reveal their baby’s gender. Except, unlike the server at Texas Roadhouse, the cast member said they couldn’t help.
This opened up a debate about whether Disney characters can participate in gender reveals, proposals, or any other surprise events. There was a lot of conflicting information. Some employees claimed it was a case-by-case basis, and others would help if they wanted to, but legally, they weren’t really supposed to. Just like Brittany’s clip, thousands of viewers were annoyed at the concept of doing a gender reveal at Disneyland, and furthermore wanting to make an employee do it for them.
People are annoyed
Over 6,600 viewers left a comment under Brittany’s TikTok. Many of them were heckling or criticizing her for the gender reveal. One viewer with almost 17,000 likes wrote, “Who has a gender reveal at texas roadhouse?”
“Don’t ever do this again,” one viewer said, while another shared, “This could’ve been an email.”
A third laments for the waitress and adds, “This poor server.” While another similarly comments, “If I was the server I would’ve been telling my coworkers how that was so awkward.”
Many choose to comment on the couple’s reactions, or rather, lack thereof. “And the crowd goes mild,” says one viewer.
Another says, “”Omg really?” like the server’s lying.” Another viewer says, “Why make her do this and not even act happy.”
A comment with over 40,000 likes says, “Not the waitress trying to hype YOU up.” And finally, a viewer with over 360,000 likes says, “She was more excited then yall.”
Last and definitely not least, the alleged server herself comments on the TikTok. She says, “Loll i’m the server!! these comments got me dying.”

Who is Madison Humphrey?
An interesting subset of viewers commented about a certain Madison Humphrey. They either tagged her in the video, asked where she was, or predicted her arrival. For the uninitiated, Madison Humphrey is a TikTok-famous influencer who does parodies based on viral TikToks. The rumor is that if your TikTok goes viral, she will be in your DMs asking for permission to parody it. Lo and behold, she did comment on Brittany’s clip.
Her comment simply states, “Hi! I sent you a message.” It seems Brittany did give her permission as Madison’s latest TikTok is the parody, and it already has almost 12.2 million views.
The Mary Sue reached out to Brittany and Texas Roadhouse via email for comment.
