A retired couple's dream holiday turned into a nightmare after they faced 70 hours of flight delays - and had their suitcases left behind at the airport. John Dawson, 72, and his wife Ann, 65 who have two children and five grandchildren, had been looking forward to spending two weeks soaking up the sun in Crete.
However, their trip got off to a less than promising start on September 2 when their 18.35pm TUI flight from Manchester airport was cancelled. They were given a room in a Stockport hotel, but received no further information about when their flight would be rescheduled.
Mr Dawson, a retired insurance agent from Sheffield, was then told that he and his wife would be picked up by coach at 1pm the next day and taken to Gatwick airport. However, the bus then didn't arrive until 3pm, with the pair being "kicked out of the hotel as there was a wedding on", Manchester Evening News reports.
