A couple say they are determined to ensure the survival of a Nottinghamshire village's only pub after fears earlier this year that it could have been lost forever. The Spread Eagle is located in Caunton Road in the village of Hockerton, near Southwell, and it had been operating since the 1930s.
It was then put up for sale early this year and villagers feared it could have been turned into housing. But the community is now gearing up for the planned reopening of the pub on Friday (December 9) thanks to Natalie and Blake Beresforde.
The couple previously lived in Hucknall, with Blake working as a head chef for another local pub and Natalie working in the care industry. Both of them were looking for a change and The Spread Eagle caught their attention when they saw the news about it being put up for sale.
