Couple both aged 100 and married for 79 years die just hours apart

A 100-year-old couple who were married for 79 years died just hours apart in the same hospice.

June and Hubert Malicote, from Ohio, US, were married for nearly eight decades and had three children together including seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Their son Sam, 76, revealed his mum became seriously ill just a day after Thanksgiving and was transferred to the Hospice of Hamilton in Ohio for end of life care.

This led to his dad becoming heartbroken who "broke down" after seeing his beloved wife's health deteriorate, according to Sam.

Hubert was soon admitted to the same hospice, Mirror.co.uk reports.

"He fell apart, really," Sam admitted.

The husband and wife, who were both unconscious for five days, even shared a room at the hospice.

On November 30 at around 9pm, Hubert sadly died in his sleep and his son Sam believes it was due to a "broken heart."

And just 20 hours later at around 6pm on December 1, June passed away.

Sam said: "They went out together. I feel sad, but I shouldn’t. Who can expect to live a life like that? "

"They lived a long, happy life together and they were devoted to God and the family."

The husband and wife met in 1941 at a church service in Kentucky and Hubert proposed to June just a year later, aged 20.

Hubert was on leave from the US Navy when he popped the question to 20-year-old June.

He previously told Local 12: "When I saw her, I said she’ll be a good one."

After Hubert finished his US Navy duties the pair settled in Hamilton, Ohio and he started work at the technology company Diebold Inc.

June became a stay-at-home mum after having three children.

Hubert told WLWT : "She was a terrific stay-at-home mom. She made the girls' dresses. She planted a big garden. She canned and preserved, she was a good stay-at-home mom."

The also had seven grandchildren and 11-great-children.

In June this year, after celebrating 79 years together, the pair revealed their secrets to a long and happy marriage - which included never arguing.

He said: "We didn’t go through life without problems, but we would never do anything to hurt each other.

"If there’s controversy, you might have to walk away for a couple minutes. Then you come back in and change the subject or you work it out."

June added: "We haven't had one quarrel."

Hubert said it was essential to put the person before their own feelings.

"You never want to hurt the one you love. Put them first, above your own feelings. If you have difficulties, work them out. I would say don't go to bed mad."

The pair revealed they loved watching western movies, sitting down and eating together each night and just spending time with each other.

Hubert said: "We’ve never really gone out much. When the kids were younger we were happy sitting around the table sharing stories about our day.

"We’ve had a wonderful life."
