County Road kick-off as 'gang' fears raised around takeaway plans

Fears about 'gangs gathering' emerged after a County Road dessert takeaway asked to open until the early hours.

Choco Dado applied to Liverpool City Council for a licence that would see it remain open until 3am on most nights of the week. The takeaway, which also has a branch in Smithdown Road, currently opens until 11pm each night.

Its new application would see it open until 3am on all nights except Saturday, when it would remain open until 2am. The business and its plans will go before a meeting of the council's Licensing and Gambling sub-committee on Wednesday March 30, where councillors on the committee will hear arguments in favour and against the plans.

Those speaking out against the plans include all three County Ward councillors, Gerard Woodhouse, Roy Gladden and Maureen Delahunty. In their written submissions, the councillors raise concerns about noise and 'violence' related to groups that may gather outside the premises.

The objection states: "There is already considerable anti-social behaviour in this area and this will contribute to more.

"We have been contacted by local residents on the potential impact of this application on them in relation to public nuisance. They are concerned about the extra noise and resulting violence from gangs and late night groups gathering outside of the establishment.(We) Suggest that this application to vary the licence is rejected."

The licensing committee will hear these objections in full and the case made by the business owners at the hearing at the end of the month. Choco Dado was approached for comment.
