A COUNCILLOR in the Scottish Highlands has been left fuming with a large volume of campervans disrupting locals.
Angus MacDonald, a LibDem councillor for the Fort William and Ardnamurchan ward, took to Facebook to share his frustrations.
Fort William is listed by the Alba Campers guide as a potential "additional stop" for those travelling the famous NC500 route.
One of the most popular road trips in the world with tourists, the NC500 has faced a number of problems in recent years, including speeding and issues with toilet facilities.
We told last week how residents were left angry after discovering freshly cut tree stumps alongside firepits on the route.
Writing on Facebook, MacDonald said: “Campervans are everywhere, every lay-by. CalMac is so full of them that locals can’t get on the ferry.
“They won’t be subject to tourist tax unless they stay in a campsite. Highland Council’s plans for a voluntary payment of £40 is a nonsense.
“In the US, Canada and continental Europe, they are required to park in an approved site.”
He then also shared a picture of the view from his council office in Fort William and pointed out parking is supposed to be banned overnight.
A number of people in the comments were also left outraged with one saying “others are encouraged to do the same” when they see people parking anywhere.
“They should be restricted to overnight parking in approved sites unless they display proof of the payment,” said another.
