Council tax bills in Northumberland will rise after county bosses signed off on budget plans that also contain £17m worth of cuts.
Northumberland County Council agreed on Wednesday to impose the maximum council tax hike allowed by the Government. The cost of car parking in some popular areas and rent bills for council house tenants is also set to jump this year, but leaders insisted that cutbacks elsewhere in the local authority’s finances would not hit frontline services.
Residents will see their council tax increase by 2.99% in addition to a 2% rise in a precept to meet the rising costs of social care services. The rise means that a band D property in the county would see its bills go up by £87.91 to £1,985.30 a year, representing an overall 4.63% increase.
