Council mishap sees new disabled parking bay completely block street and residents are furious

Seething residents have taken to social media after a huge council blunder saw a disabled bay painted opposite an existing parking space.

Eagle-eyed tenants on York Road, in Sefton near Liverpool, were quick to point out the mishap that would see their street blocked should both spaces be in use.

The Liverpool Echo reports one resident named Lisa took to Twitter, saying: “Sefton Council, can you explain this to me please? How do I drive my car down the road that I live in to get to my driveway if a car is parked in this bay and both cars are parked in the spaces facing? Don’t get me started on emergency services and bin collections.”

Other furious residents took to social media, with Twitter-user Paul calling the mistake an “access risk”.

“I agree that the disabled need parking and actually think there should be more of them, but can you explain why this one has popped up on York Road. surely it causes an access risk if parked in,” he said.

The council was quick to respond and sent contractors back to the street to scrub out one of the trouble-making parking spots. A photograph of the road shows the disabled space opposite the almost blacked out bay.

A Sefton Council spokesperson said: “As soon as we were informed of the mistake by a member of the public, we contacted the contractor and the markings were removed yesterday morning.”
