Renfrew Dry Cleaners was able to make the improvements to their shop front thanks to a grant scheme from Renfrewshire Council called the Retail Improvement Scheme. The scheme allows businesses to make improvements, repairs or upgrades to the front of their shops.
Sharon Chall, manager of Renfrew Dry Cleaners, has said that the scheme has allowed them to welcome people in wheelchairs into the shop now by making the access more user-friendly, something that wasn’t possible before.
She said: “ The new shop front looks very nice and customers who have come into the shop have complimented on the new look. Even people passing by in the street have complimented the work that has been done.
“One thing that’s really made a difference is we get a lot of customers coming in wheelchairs, but the previous door was so tight they couldn’t always get in. Now they are delighted because we don’t have to come out and serve them in the street.
“We felt that it was good to invest into the business and the local area, something the scheme has allowed us to do.
“I would definitely recommend the retail improvement scheme. I don’t just want it to be my shop looking nice, I want the whole street to look just as nice!”
The Renfrewshire Council introduced the scheme to help improve local businesses in terms of looks and design with the Council stating that it will “ benefit both your business and the area where it's located.” The scheme’s deadline for businesses to get in touch is fast approaching with August 7 being the final date that businesses can submit any applications to use the scheme.
Touching on investing in local businesses through the scheme and how it will not only improve the local economy, but the look of Renfrewshire, the council have expressed their delight in the popularity of the scheme. A council spokesperson said: “We are committed to helping local traders grow and to making our town centres welcoming and attractive places to visit and do business.
“The Retail Improvement Scheme has been a hugely-popular initiative over recent years and has helped many local businesses improve the look of their shopfronts.
“The scheme is currently open for applications but the deadline is fast approaching so we would encourage any interested businesses to get their applications in.”
