Costco Shopping Haul For Van Life Adventures Reveals Surprising Finds

A Costco shopping cart is shown at a Costco Wholesale store in Carlsbad, California

Tiny living and Costco may seem like an unlikely pairing at first glance, given Costco's reputation for selling items in bulk and the limited space of a campervan. However, one adventurous individual decided to test this combination before embarking on a two-week road trip in a 75-square-foot van.

Preparing for a journey through six states, including Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah, the traveler made a strategic stop at Costco outside Denver to stock up on groceries, road snacks, and winter essentials like hand warmers.

Despite initial reservations about Costco's bulk offerings, the traveler was pleasantly surprised to find a variety of deals that suited their needs. For instance, they found Liquid I.V. electrolyte hydration mix at a competitive price of $23 for 24 packets, a significant saving compared to other retailers.

Costco also proved to be a treasure trove for meal options. The traveler opted for Giovanni Rana's ravioli, which provided enough servings for multiple meals at a cost-effective price of $11.99 for 32 ounces, a better deal than a similar product at Walmart.

Additionally, the traveler discovered a French pesto soup by Karine and Jeff, priced at $13.99 for two jars, making it a convenient and appropriately sized meal option for the van lifestyle.

For fresh and healthy choices, the traveler picked up Taylor Farms salad kits and two containers of raspberries, both offering good value compared to local grocery stores.

Snack enthusiasts would appreciate the variety of options at Costco, including Dot's Homestyle Pretzels, Sconza Thins' strawberry-coated almonds, Bobo's granola bars, and Boomchickapop kettle corn, all at competitive prices that made them irresistible purchases.

Not forgetting the importance of cleanliness and comfort on the road, the traveler invested in a four-pack of Lysol wipes for easy cleaning and a large box of disposable hand warmers at a fraction of the cost found on other platforms.

In total, the traveler spent less than $200 on food and supplies at Costco, estimating savings of around $75 due to the bulk purchases. While some items, like the oversized bag of kettle corn, posed storage challenges in the van, others, such as Liquid I.V. and hand warmers, proved to be essential companions throughout the trip.

Reflecting on the experience, the traveler acknowledged that many of the Costco purchases would likely become staples in a full-time van life scenario, showcasing the unexpected synergy between tiny living and bulk shopping.
