Cost to hire out Clydebank Town Hall for events to increase from April

The cost for organisations and local residents who want to hire Clydebank Town Hall has been increased.

From Saturday, April 1, costs to rent out various venues inside the town hall will rise slightly, with the price to rent the Grand Hall increasing from £108 to £118.

Charges have also increased for the hiring of the reception hall which will go up from £85 to £93, the ceremony room from £65 to £70, the garden gallery from £85 to £93, Clyde room from £36 to £39 and the changing rooms from £44 to £48.

An additional £45 per hour will be charged to groups who rent the building on a Sunday.

Community groups and charities, including local amateur dramatic groups, will continue to be offered a 25% discount on room bookings during the day and at night including weekends.

During West Dunbartonshire’s 2023/24 budget, a £20,000 fund was created to help support community groups who want to hire council venues or facilities for one- off events.

The issue was discussed at the most recent council meeting.

Councillor Daniel Lennie said: “Greater use of the Town Hall could marginally increase projected income but more weekend and night use would increase projected costs.

“Clydebank Town Hall is a community facility for the use of the people of Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire and beyond.

“As a public building it is designed to be a service for others and is not expected to generate profit. It is open to the public from 9am until 5pm - Monday to Friday but can also be hired outside these times.”

The B-listed building has been described as the council’s premier events venue, providing bespoke space for a range of corporate, civic and cultural events and also hosting museum and gallery space.

It is currently open to the public and events space can be hired seven-days-a-week until midnight, subject to licensing.

Following a restructure the annual operating costs have reduced from £518,000 in 2020/23 to £417,000 in 2022/23.

Typically bookings for events are received around 12 months in advance and bookings for weddings are received up to two years in advance.

Councillor Lennie added: “The income from the Clydebank Town Hall is around £80,000 and the net cost of running it is around £337,000. It makes a loss of £6480 per week.

“The hope is we have a simple application process to allow community groups to apply for use of the facilities, which is fair for all.”
