A new cost of living survey has shed light on the latest shopping trends in Ireland.
Penneys released their first 'Pulse of the Nation' Index today. The findings suggested that women, renters and families are amongst the worst affected groups by the cost of living crisis.
Shopping habits show how people have been impacted by the energy crisis in particular. Eight out of 10 shoppers said they had bought warm clothing, such as snuddies and thermal underwear, in order to curb their heating bills during the winter.

Head of Penneys Ireland Damien O'Neill said: "We have launched the Penneys Pulse of the Nation Index to understand more broadly how people are feeling, and how savvy and adaptable Irish consumers are becoming in the face of financial pressures. Our customers rely on us for great quality affordable essentials which is why we pledged to keep prices low on essential kids’ products last winter."
Penneys has also seen more customers actively seeking out quality clothing at low value prices. The research suggests that over half of adults surveyed were struggling to control their monthly expenditure.
Despite the financial pressures facing many shoppers, almost a third of those surveyed still plan on going abroad this summer. Demand for items such as swimwear, luggage and flip flops has risen across Penneys stores nationwide, according to the findings.
