Ukraine is fighting a war against an invader, Russia. But it’s also battling an internal enemy. Corruption has long been a problem plaguing Kyiv and is one of the principle criticisms of the country when it comes to joining blocs such as the European Union.
The dismissal/resignation of Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov is a clear sign that President Volodymyr Zelensky is determined to crack down on corruption. This time it was military uniforms, but there have been other cases in the past. Now, in a time of war, Ukraine is grasping that nettle firmly in an attempt to rip it up by the roots, to ensure a corruption-free future for the rebuilding of the country. How large a task lies ahead? How important a job is it?
