Coronation Street star Stephanie Beacham has joked that she wants the former Prime Minister Liz Truss to be put in jail, after her latest interview was cut short.
The 75-year-old soap star appeared on Loose Women to talk about her return to Weatherfield, where she is set to cause havoc for her former on-screen flame Ken played by soap legend Bill Roache.
However, Loose Women aired a shorter programme today due to ITV hosting a special news programme at 11.15am, as the government outlined their Autumn budget after the disastrous mini budget last month.
As a result, the daytime talk show started late at almost 12:45pm, which meant that their interview with Stephanie was cut short as they only had around 45 minutes airtime in total for the episode.
As their conversation came to an end, Kaye Adams said that Stephanie should “blame” Jeremy Hunt for their chat being brought to a swift end, as he led the budget announcement.
Stephanie replied: “I will blame Jeremy Hunt quite a lot I think,” before she joked: “But I think I want Liz Truss in jail first.”
The off-hand comment about the former Conservative Prime Minister left the panel in stitches, as she held a straight face for the studio audience.
Stephanie also opened up about her triumphant return to Coronation Street as Martha Fraser, a character she last played 13 years ago when she had an affair with Ken Barlow.
Martha is set to become part of a new love triangle as Ken has started a new relationship with his former flame, Wendy Papadopoulous, when Martha arrives to help out with a local am-dram production.
Ken is stunned to see Martha after all these years, and he starts to forget all about Wendy as he tries to rekindle a relationship with Martha. It seems history is repeating itself!
Stephanie is set to return to Coronation Street next week on Wednesday 23rd November.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV and ITV X.
