Corrie star goes to bed early to save on electricity amid cost of living crisis

Coronation Street's Daniel Brocklebank is going to bed early to save money amid the cost of living crisis.

The ITV soap actor - who plays Billy Mayhew on the show - has admitted he has taken a drastic measure in a bid to save money on electricity amid the current astronomical rise in household bills affecting the whole of the UK.

Daniel is currently involved in a huge storyline with Summer Spellman and Todd Grimshaw. He was given custody of Summer after his old flame Drew Spellman expressed his wish for Billy to take over the care of Summer after he passed away.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "Anyone else find themselves going to bed early just so they don’t have to turn the lights on? I feel like I did when I was 8 and could still hear the bigger kids playing outside #energycrisis."

His fans and friends were quick to reply to his tweet to admit it was a similar case for them too.

"I sit in the dark every evening. Only watch my soaps. My cooker is broken so only have air fryer to cook with. I turn everything off standby. And not used heating for 5 years. I'm putting on £200 a month on electric just to barely exist. How is that right?" one wrote.

A second saw a positive in the situation, as they added: "We are spending most evening under candle light - it's actually quite nice and also has the handy by product of warming the room up!"

"Said the same to hubby tonight. Might be candle light soon. 1 little side lamp and the TV, nothing else tonight," a third wrote.

A fourth penned in a reply to Daniel's tweet: "Me too but I will admit to watching tv until late with no lights on at all, leave the curtains open and let the moon light up the lounge #saveenergy."

Daniel is an avid Tweeter and previously sparked concern when he posted he had "had enough," as fans quickly flooded his timeline with messages of support for the popular actor.

Later, he took to social media to insist he was doing OK, adding: "Thanks for all of your lovely messages. They’ve restored my faith in humanity hugely. Yesterday was particularly testing but today is a new day. Big love to you all."
