Coronation Street's Sally Carman has revealed whether her character Abi Franklin will regret her decision to abandon her newborn baby.
Abi was rushed to hospital after initially collapsing in agony at the roadside in a previous episode, after drama with drug dealer Dean.
Fans of the ITV soap were gobsmacked though when Sunday night's episode ended with Abi realising that she was in labour, declaring she was having a baby.
On Monday night, the scenes picked up from the previous episode of the ITV soap when Abi was left alone in the road, desperately calling for an ambulance.
Abi had no idea at all she was pregnant, with actress Sally explaining to The Mirror and other press that there were no signs to suggest she was.
In the scenes that followed Sunday's episode, Abi welcomed a baby boy around six months into her pregnancy.
The little baby needed assistance and was rushed to the unit for care, but Abi, posing as Jennifer soon snuck back home.
Clearly in pain and in shock over the events, Abi left without telling anyone - leaving the baby in the unit at the hospital.
Now, actress Sally has revealed why Abi chose to flee in the wake of giving birth, having also confirmed on Good Morning Britain that Abi would "do a runner".
Sally explained the panic took over for Abi, hence her giving a fake name when being admitted to hospital.
Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Sally revealed how Abi wouldn't feel it was an option for the time being to look after her new child.
She said: "She's full of shame and guilt and she's massively in shock and not thinking straight.
"Again it's she goes to what she knows when her back is up against the wall feeling, the negative feelings. She's in pain and desperate, she panicked and that's why she gave a false name.
"She was worried they would call the police on her and what would happen, she just was completely emotionally overloaded."
On fleeing and the fallout of the birth, she went on: "She doesn't believe she can look after him properly. From her point of view she’s already failed this baby and he’s only just born.
"She’s completely wrecked the start of his life in her head, and she has nothing offer to him. She’s already messed him up, he was born too soon probably because of the drugs, that is what she thinks.
"She has no home anymore, no relationship, no prospects, no job, what could she possibly do for this child other than give him a chance by giving him up."
Sally added: "She is in denial, she thinks she can carry on as before. She's not thinking straight. She's in a really bad way emotionally, mentally and physically. She is out of her mind."
On whether Abi believes she can look after her son, she went on: "No because she doesn't feel it's an option, there's no point. She doesn't want that, she can't deal with that, she hasn't got anything to offer.
"That's shut down, she has proven three times she's made a mess at it, she hasn't got it in her to open up her heart in that wa,y it's just a complete no go at the minute for her."
