Corrie's Ryan Connor star shares 'hardest thing' about 'difficult' acid attack plot

Coronation Street 's Ryan Connor actor Ryan Prescott has revealed the "hardest thing" about the makeup used for his new storyline on the ITV soap, after Ryan was injured in an acid attack - with the actor hoping to do the storyline justice for acid attack survivors.

Horrifying scenes on Monday night saw Ryan left seriously injured when acid was thrown at him by Justin Rutherford, who was aiming for Daisy Midgeley.

Justin has been stalking and harassing Daisy for months, and on Monday night, on her wedding day, he decided to launch an evil attack on her.

But as he threw the corrosive substance towards her, Ryan jumped in front of her to protect her while not realising what Justin was about to do.

Ryan was hit with the acid and was left screaming out in pain, as evil Justin fled the scene.

The character will have a long recovery ahead of him as his life is "changed forever", with a new image showing Ryan's injuries bandaged up.

The soap's makeup team apply the character's facial burns, and other injuries, daily and have all been shown how to apply and where to place the makeup to replicate Ryan's wounds.

Actor Ryan admitted that with around 15 makeup artists on the show applying the makeup at different times, and with him filming continuously, the challenge is to make sure they keep continuity.

He said that when the storyline was first being filmed, it took an hour to apply the makeup and an hour to take it off each time, and while this time has been reduced they still have a "huge job" to ensure it matches in every scene.

Ryan explained: "The colouration has to be done every time by hand, every time I come in. There is around 15 people in the makeup team that will have to get used to putting it on.

"It was about an hour in the chair at the beginning and an hour to get it off. The hardest thing to do is match it with continuity, so they are having to match not just the colouration but the placement too, they've got a huge job but they are smashing it."

Ryan also discussed filming the acid attack scenes, and said it was "fun" to shoot as it had a "different energy" to norma episodes, with special camera used.

Speaking about the initial aftermath of the attack, Ryan said that his character would not have know straight away what had happened to him.

He said: "There are a few seconds where you wouldn't know what it was, it takes a couple of seconds for sulphuric acid to set into the facial tissue and start eroding.

"He probably would have thought it was vodka or something in the moment because it is very difficult to anticipate this level of hate and violence, and we don't really like to look at these things for the fact that one person could do this to another."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
