Corrie's Lucy Fallon shares baby son's name weeks after birth as she details his arrival for first time

Lucy Fallon has confirmed the name of her son and shared details from his birth for the first time, weeks after he made his arrival into the world. The former Coronation Street actress welcomed her first child, a baby boy, into the world last month. with her footballer boyfriend Ryan Ledson.

The couple, who announced they were expecting when Lucy was five months pregnant in September, confirmed their newborn's birth earlier this month alongside a snap of themselves as beaming new parents with their newborn baby boy.

Sharing the news, Lucy, who played Bethany Platt in Corrie from 2015 to 2022, posted a sweet black and white image of herself and Ryan as she cradled their precious bundle of joy. "Our beautiful boy," she captioned the photo as she shared that he was welcomed into the world on January 30.

She was quickly flooded with congratulatory messages with her former soap co-stars leading the gushing messages. Lucy, who hails from Blackpool, has since been sharing little updates into life as a new mum but hadn't confirmed her son's name - until now.

Speaking exclusively to OK! Magazine, Lucy and Preston North End footballer Ryan, who live together in West Lancashire, revealed their baby boy is named Sonny Jude. While they admitted there’s no particular meaning behind the name, it was one of the only ones that the couple could agree on.

"I kept adding names to a list. I liked a lot of names that Ryan didn’t. Some were a bit out there, like ‘Fox’," Lucy told OK! Ryan laughed as he told the publication that as a Scouser, there was "no chance" his son would end up with a quirky name. "He’d get ribbed non-stop! But as the pregnancy progressed, we were calling him Sonny," he said.

Lucy also shared how she had an 'assisted birth'. In week 38 of her pregnancy, scans showed that Sonny’s growth had started to slow down and he had reduced movement, so Lucy’s doctors advised she should be induced. On January 29, she arrived at the hospital at 9am for her induction.

"I was having tiny contractions during the day,” she said. "Ryan wasn’t allowed to stay after 9pm. At midnight, my waters broke, and then my contractions started getting quite painful. Ryan came back to the hospital at 5.30am. By then, I was 3cm dilated and was moved to the delivery suite. I was on gas and air for ages but that didn’t work, I was being sick – it was horrible. I was making a lot of noise."

By 4pm, Lucy, 28, had started pushing, which went on for an hour and a half, but, between contractions, her baby's head was going back in and she was given three options – ventouse (vacuum cup), forceps or Caesarean. Due to Sonny’s position having to be be manipulated for a C-section, Lucy didn’t want him put under any unnecessary stress and knew she didn’t want a forceps delivery, so she opted for the ventouse.

"Having the ventouse is classed as an assisted birth, so we headed into surgery around 6pm, and he was born at 6.34pm, weighing 7lb 4oz. He had a bit of a cone head for a few days, but he’s fine now," the new mum said.
