Corrie's David actor lifts lid on Max's chilling spiking 'cover-up' before 'death fall'

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has opened up about the upcoming drama on the soap as his character David Platt reacts to threats Max Turner's chilling spiking secret could be revealed.

The troubled teen becomes involved in the love triangle between Daisy Midgeley, Nicky Wheatley and Daniel Osbourne next week - and it could have devastating consequences.

The drama is triggered by Max’s latest offence in spreading revealing pictures of ex-sex worker Nicky around the school.

In the street, Daniel rails at Max for ruining Nicky’s life, only for dad David Platt to leap to Max’s defence.

But Daniel’s had enough and suggests it’s time Amy knew who spiked her drink - saying that if Max doesn’t tell her, he will.

Corrie actor Jack has now said that the situation leaves his character David feeling “massive responsibility” because of his past with Max's biological father.

He said: “He always tries to defend Max and I don't know why. I think it must be something to do with the fact that he's not biologically his and Max doesn't know that he covered up his father's murder.

“Then his mum died. He's got Lily, who's David's biological child, but he always tries to do a little bit better for Max because he probably thinks well, he's got no parents.”

Jack has said that David’s initial reaction to the accusations will be to excuse Max's behaviour because Nicky did used to be a sex worker and its something the pupils should know.

But Jack added that his character’s position will start to change when Daniel makes Nicky’s case, saying: “Daniel's like, 'She could lose her job, she could lose her house'. And then Daniel says he's gonna tell Amy about the spiking.”

This is when Jack says his character realises he and Max need to “come up with a plan and a story” to make sure they “haven't done anything wrong”, covering Max’s involvement in Amy’s spiking despite previously threatening to report him to the police.

He added: “So I think he's on Max's side, he's trying to get him out of it the best that he can.

“But I mean, he's making a rod for his own back because he is letting him get away with everything.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
