Coronation Street fans believe they have twigged on to the true killer of Charlie Walter, whose murder Stu Carpenter went to prison for.
ITV soap fans were shocked when it was revealed that popular character Stu (Bill Fellows) had done prison time for the murder of the young waitress, who he had been having an affair with.
His ex-wife Lucy Woodrow (Lynda Rooke) revealed the shocking details to Yasmeen (Shelley King) after Stu had tried to make contact with his daughter Bridget Woodrow (Beth Vyse).
However, Stu has since protested his innocence and fought for Yasmeen to hear him out, prompting her grandchildren Alya (Sair Khan) and Zeedan (Qasim Akhtar) to seek out the truth as they look into the case.
Alya, with the help of Adam Barlow, has since learned that the detective on the case, Detective Lennox, interviewed Stu under duress during the 1980s, grilling him for hours and even throwing Stu to the floor to elicit a confession.
The pair have since started investigating Detective Lennox, who Stu feels framed him for the crime and Yasmeen has even come around and had a change of heart.
In Wednesday night’s episode she welcomed Stu back into her home as she stood by him amid protests from fellow Weatherfield residents, who have not been so forgiving.
As the hunt to find the truth of what happens continues, Coronation Street fans now think they know who could have killed the young waitress all those years ago.
In a surprise twist, fans now believe the culprit is his ex Lucy, which is why she refuses to let Stu visit Bridget.
Taking to Twitter as the episode came to a close, one fan wrote: “How much you betting the ex wife was sleeping with the cop and she was the one that killed that girl.”
Another wrote: “Hmmmm Stu's ex wife seems pretty guilty to me..........is she the secret killer? Was she having an affair with PC Lennox.........”
A third tweeted: “Wondering if Stu wife killed the girl in rage that is why she wants case to be dropped,” as another echoed: “Bookmark this. Stu's ex-wife is guilty. Stu took the fall and don't know it.”
“I think Stu's wife killed his lover and that's why she wants him to drop the case,” another agreed.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
