Coronation Street fans have predicted love triangle drama between Toyah Battersby and Imran Habeeb after the soap announced that ITV legend Spider Nugent will be making his return to the cobbles.
Toyah Battersby’s on and off again ex-boyfriend, played by Martin Hancock, is set to begin filming scenes next week and will hit ITV screens in July.
The actor will return to soap screens to reprise the role he played as Emily’s eco warrior nephew between 1997 and 2003.
After the ITV soap announced the exciting return of the character, Corrie fans took to Twitter to theorise what his reappearance could mean for the characters on the cobbles - particularly Toyah.
The fan favourite character initially headed to London to start afresh with Toyah when he left the soap in 2003, but the couple later separated and he moved to Peru, while Toyah returned to Weatherfield in 2016.
One fan theorised: “Can't wait for Spider to come back maybe Toyah will rekindle her romance with him after Mr Charmy pants has gone.”
Another wrote: “Am very happy to see Spider back...sort out useless lying rat Imran will you Spidie.”
“I’ve read Charlie De Melo (Imran) is leaving. Spider will return and catch Toyah in his web,” another predicted.
A fellow fan posted two possible theories - with an Emily Bishop exit potentially in the cards - writing: “Spider's coming back either he will be back with Toyah or are they killing off Emily?”
Another social media user wrote: “I love Spider! I hope he gets together with Toyah.”
“With Imran leaving Toyah might hook up with Spider again when he returns to the street,” another wrote as a fellow fan asked: “Is that the actual Spider coming back to save Toyah from her wedding? Hope so!”
Toyah has seemingly forgiven Imran for cheating on her with Abi and getting her pregnant, and is now rushing ahead with their wedding.
Next week is the big day, and ITV spoilers have revealed that Abi does everything she can to stop Toyah from marrying him amid his plan to take Alfie.
As Imran waits for his bride with a small group of wedding guests, Abi hijacks the wedding car just as Toyah gets into it.
Driving off, Abi tries to persuade Toyah to cancel the wedding and pleads with her to see she is making a mistake.
Abi eventually drops Toyah off at the hotel, and the bride walks in before going ahead with the ceremony.
As the wedding party piles into the Rovers, Imran confronts Abi in the street and asserts that she’s an unfit mother.
So will Toyah soon regret her decision to marry Imran, and what does it mean for Abi?
